Binge-watching West Wing and I LOVE it mostly but sometimes hate it and also it's really too glaringly obvious when Sorkin positions naive characters (ahem, Donna) just so that others (senior staff) have a reason to reveal backstory, pieces of American history, government/political process, etc. But why should Mexico get our bailout money, Josh? Well Donna, because historical anecdotes, blah blah blah. Leaving aside the fact that a real-life person in Donna's position wouldn't be such an airhead and likely would have a Masters in political science, that shit is supposed to be subtle, dammit. But ANYWAY, I'm in the episodes where Tami Taylor is helping the Bartlet campaign strategize and it is SO WEIRD to hear her utter a sentence without an accent or a y'all attached to it.
